Description

Distributed microgrids are fast gaining recognition as the lowest cost solution to provide energy to remote rural communities living off-grid. Technology advances have enabled energy companies to deploy DC distributed microgrids at a fraction of the cost vs traditional AC microgrids.

Lithium storage has experienced a growing uptake in the solar sector with the lifetime cost point now at parity or less compared with traditional lead-acid...

Objective

The product once deployed will be a 55V DC distributed smart microgrid with lithium storage. Think of a network of connected solar home systems all sharing power in a mesh. Connected systems will enable households to have access to 24hrs of power and draw more power from the network when their needs exceed the capacity of the system in their house or share excess power...

Results

The project was prematurely closed after its second Milestone (28/2/22) as the proposed project design was no longer viable due to exogenous factors in Cambodia. The project managed to develop and test a prototype of the business concept, but it was not deployed in Cambodia as originally intended.
